The Buckwheat Cooperative of North-Pirkanmaa was established in the county of Vilppula in 2003. The aim of this Cooperative is to cultivate pure raw-material for the companies refining buckwheat further. The farmer who joins the Cooperative makes a commitment to produce pure grain-free buckwheat. This works only if and when the whole production chain stays grain-free. The horticultural advisor of the ProAgria Rural Advisory Center of Pirkanmaa inspects the buckwheat population and farmers themselves attend to their necessary machines to be 100 % grain-free.

The Buckwheat Cooperative of North-Pirkanmaa was granted a Pro-Agria Award for its exemplary work on behalf of the Finnish countryside.
